Ripple has committed $25 million in its RLUSD stablecoin to enhance US education through nonprofit organizations such as DonorsChoose and Teach For America.
Announced on May 5, the contribution aims to support teachers, fund classroom projects, and provide critical academic resources to underserved communities across the United States. This initiative seeks to address growing concerns about education quality, as a 2024 Gallup survey revealed that over half of US adults are dissatisfied with the current state of K-12 education.
Ripple’s donation will specifically help fulfill teacher requests, purchase necessary supplies, and expand tutoring programs like Teach For America’s Ignite. Additionally, Ripple plans to sponsor a nationwide STEM challenge to inspire innovation and problem-solving skills among young learners.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse expressed, “We hope to inspire others to follow suit, starting with Teacher Appreciation Week and continuing through the year to support students and teachers with the resources they need to build a stronger future.”
RLUSD’s Role in Charitable Giving
A key feature of Ripple’s $25 million pledge is that a significant portion of the funds will be provided in RLUSD—Ripple’s stablecoin, which currently has a market cap of $316 million, according to CryptoSlate. This donation underscores the growing role of digital assets in philanthropy, offering an efficient and direct way to support impactful causes.
Ripple’s focus on social impact is reflected in its broader strategy, Ripple Impact. In 2023, Ripple also donated $50,000 in RLUSD to assist with California wildfire response efforts, marking just one example of their commitment to global humanitarian work. Since its inception in 2018, Ripple has contributed over $200 million to initiatives spanning education, humanitarian aid, and blockchain training across more than 80 countries.
